Theme: Looking backward, looking forwards: Two years after the First National Land Conference
The Multi-Actors Platform on Land Governance and Responsible Agricultural Investment in Liberia (MAP Liberia Land Platform) in collaboration with the Government of Liberia through the Liberia Land Authority (LLA) and relevant state actors working in the land and agriculture sectors will convene in Ganta, Nimba County from 24th to 27th September 2024 for the second National Land Conference (NLC) on land rights and land reform in Liberia.
With support from the government of Liberia and international development partners, the second NLC will review the progress made thus far since hosting the first national land conference in March 2022 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. The conference will take place from September 24 – 27, 2024 in Gompa City, Nimba County, Liberia; the overall goal of the conference is to review the implementation of the Land Reform in Liberia two years after the first national conference and to identify progress, challenges and opportunities for advancing land reform in the country.
The conference deliberations will focus on the issues of customary land formalization, land rights of women, youth, and people with disabilities, land administration including, decentralization of land governance and services, and national land data monitoring and evaluation system. The conference is expected to bring 200 delegates together in the northeastern city of Liberia representing various institutions including government agencies, CSOs Working Group on Land Rights Reform, academia and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Community Land Development Management Committee (CLDMC), national and international organizations as well as donor partners. The president of Liberia, His Excellency Amb. Joseph Nyuman Boakai is expected to give the keynote address at the conference.
The conference is being supported by the following institutions: USAID, FAO, Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) German Cooperation, International Land Coalition (ILC), Tenure Facility (TF), ForumCiv, ETC.
